Robert Dalban — Biography
Robert Dalban, born Gaston Barré on 19 July 1903 in Celles-sur-Belle, died on 3 April 1987 in Paris. He ranks among the most recognizable supporting players of French cinema, appearing in more than two hundred pictures between 1934 and 1987. He typically portrayed secondary figures such as police inspectors, butchers or taxi drivers, sharing scenes with major French stars including Jean Gabin, Louis de Funès, Alain Delon and Lino Ventura. He played a newspaper editor across three Fantômas installments, an inspector named Gouvion in Le Pacha, and a technician in La Chèvre. Across his long run he moved comfortably between comedy, crime pictures and drama, also remembered for entries in the Seventh Company series and La Boum. Alongside his screen work he performed on stage, and he remains one of the enduring faces of popular French film from the mid-twentieth century onward.
