Le Baron de l'écluse

Le Baron de l'écluse is a 1960 French-Italian co-production directed by Jean Delannoy and adapted from Georges Simenon's novel of the same name. Maurice Druon wrote the screenplay, while Michel Audiard supplied the dialogue. Jean Gabin stars as a gambler who runs away with an old flame, portrayed by Micheline Presle, only to watch their money disappear. When she walks off with a champagne producer played by Jean Desailly, he is left on his own and starts warming to the idea of a quiet existence alongside an innkeeper, played by Blanchette Brunoy. That newfound calm does not last, because the day fresh funds unexpectedly reach him, everything he had been planning is thrown into question. The French-language picture runs roughly 92 minutes.
