La Boum

La Boum is a 1980 French coming-of-age romantic comedy directed by Claude Pinoteau and written by Pinoteau together with Danièle Thompson. It marked the film debut of Sophie Marceau, who plays Vic Beretton, a thirteen-year-old girl entering adolescence while her parents' troubled relationship unsettles life at home. Starting at a new school, Vic makes fresh friends, looks forward to wild parties and experiences her first romantic stirrings; as teenage pressures merge with domestic problems, she turns for support to her unconventional grandmother. The film features music by Vladimir Cosma, including the song 'Reality' performed by Richard Sanderson. It drew millions of admissions in France and became an international box-office hit, establishing itself as a generational touchstone among youth films of its era. A sequel, La Boum 2, set two years later, followed in 1982.
