André Hunebelle directed Fantômas contre Scotland Yard, a 1967 crime comedy and French-Italian co-production. It closes the Fantômas trilogy begun in 1964, France's humorous answer to the James Bond craze of those years. Released in March 1967, it did not match the earlier films but still drew a large international audience.

Jean Marais plays both the master criminal Fantômas and the journalist Fandor, while Louis de Funès is Commissioner Juve, earnest but always a step behind. Mylène Demongeot is Fandor's fiancée Hélène. This time Fantômas forces the world's richest people to pay him a "tax on the right to live". Lord Mac Rashley summons Juve, his deputy Bertrand, Fandor and Hélène to his castle in Scotland to trap the villain. The mysterious setting moves the story away from Bond-style modernity toward the darker mood of Pierre Souvestre and Marcel Allain's novels.

The script is by Jean Halain and Pierre Foucaud. Shooting ran from October to December 1966, mostly in France at the Château de Roquetaillade, the Fontainebleau forest and studios. The film drew 3.5 million admissions in France and 34.3 million in the Soviet Union. Critics were harsh on the script but praised de Funès.
