Hail the Artist

Hail the Artist (original title: Salut l'artiste) is a 1973 French-Italian comedy directed by Yves Robert, with Marcello Mastroianni in the leading role. Written by Jean-Loup Dabadie and Robert himself, the French-language picture runs about 96 minutes. The ensemble around Mastroianni includes Françoise Fabian, Jean Rochefort and Carla Gravina. Released under several different titles abroad — Mach's gut, Nicolas in Germany and L'idolo della città in Italy — the film brought together some of the best-known screen actors of the period in a light comedy from one of French cinema's most popular directors of the era.
