Alexandre le bienheureux

Alexandre le bienheureux (Very Happy Alexander) is a 1968 French comedy film directed by Yves Robert, who co-wrote the screenplay with Pierre Lévy-Corti, with music by Vladimir Cosma. Released in France on 9 February 1968, it stars Philippe Noiret, Marlène Jobert and Françoise Brion, and features one of Pierre Richard's earliest screen appearances in a supporting role. The story unfolds in the rural Beauce region of France.

A childless farmer who toils alone on his land under his domineering wife's rule decides, after she dies in a car accident, to finally enjoy life: he frees his animals and takes to his bed, scandalizing a village where hard work is a virtue. Noiret's transformation from a meek peasant into a carefree bon vivant echoed the spirit of 1968 and made him a star in France.
