Françoise Brion — Biography

Françoise Brion, born Françoise Alicia Rose German de Ribon on 29 January 1933 in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, was one of the enduring faces of French cinema and theatre. Across a career spanning roughly five decades from 1957 onward, she appeared in more than 75 films. A defining early credit was Alain Robbe-Grillet's 1963 feature L'Immortelle, selected for the 13th Berlin International Film Festival, which linked her name to the French New Wave.

Over the following decades she took roles in a wide range of productions, including Rosebud, Alexandre le bienheureux, Nelly et Monsieur Arnaud and Le Divorce, before closing out her filmography with the 2023 film She Is Conann. In her personal life she was married to film critic and director Jacques Doniol-Valcroze. Françoise Brion died in Paris on 12 December 2025 at the age of 92.
