That Night
This 1958 French crime drama, directed by Maurice Cazeneuve, adapts Michel Lebrun's 1957 novel Un silence de mort for the screen. Henri-François Rey and Paul Guimard collaborated on the screenplay.
The picture stars Mylène Demongeot, Maurice Ronet and Jean Servais, with supporting turns from Françoise Prévost, Hubert Noël, Sacha Pitoëff, Françoise Brion and Dominique Zardi. Running about one hundred minutes, it stands as a representative example of the French crime cinema of its era. Production took place at the Billancourt Studios in Paris, where art director Jacques Chalvet created the sets. Released in France under its original title Cette nuit-là..., the film blends crime and dramatic elements in the tradition of late-1950s French genre filmmaking.
