Tsilla Chelton — Biography

Tsilla Chelton was born on 21 June 1919 in Jerusalem, then part of Mandatory Palestine, and spent her working life on the French stage and screen, also teaching drama. At 71 she became widely known for the title role in the 1990 film Tatie Danielle, a performance that brought her a César nomination. Two decades later, at 90, she played an elderly Alzheimer's patient from Zonguldak named Nusret Teyze in Yeşim Ustaoğlu's Pandora's Box, earning recognition at festivals abroad. She held the rank of Knight of the Legion of Honour. Chelton died in Brussels on 15 July 2012.
