Forbidden Love (Aşk-ı Memnu) (translated)

Aşk-ı Memnu (Forbidden Love) is a Turkish romantic drama series produced by Ay Yapım and broadcast on Kanal D between September 4, 2008, and June 24, 2010. Adapted from Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil's 1899 novel of the same name, the series ran for two seasons with a total of 79 episodes, and its final episode holds the record for the highest viewership in Turkish television history.

At the heart of the story is the forbidden love between young Bihter, who marries the much older and wealthy businessman Adnan Ziyagil after her father's death, and Adnan's adopted nephew, the womanizer Behlül. Set in a wealthy Istanbul mansion, the events unfold towards the tragic end that this secret relationship drags the entire family into. The film stars Beren Saat, Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ, Selçuk Yöntem, Nebahat Çehre, and Zerrin Tekindor; a larger cast also includes Hazal Kaya, Nur Fettahoğlu, and Batuhan Karacakaya.

The series, written by Ece Yörenç and Melek Gençoğlu, directed by Hilal Saral, featured music by Toygar Işıklı. The production, which garnered significant attention abroad, was remade in Spanish as Pasión Prohibida and in Romanian as Fructul Oprit; it was also dubbed into numerous languages, achieving record viewership ratings in many countries, particularly Pakistan.
