Toygun Ateş — Biography
Toygun Ateş was born on 2 June 1954 in Istanbul. After training in the Theatre Department of the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory, he built a multifaceted career spanning stage, film and television, working as an actor, director, screenwriter and voice artist.
He became a familiar face in both cinema and television, reaching a wide audience with his portrayal of Tayyar Hoca in the 2014 film Siccîn. His credits also include the film Düğün Dernek, the series Insider, and the film Eski Sevgili, roles that established him as a recognizable character actor of the post-Yeşilçam era, while he continued to work behind the camera as a director and writer.
Toygun Ateş died on 19 February 2021 in Malatya from complications of a COVID-19 infection, a loss widely mourned across the Turkish arts community.
