The Unconquerable (Mağlup Edilemeyenler) (translated)
Atıf Yılmaz directed Mağlup Edilemeyenler ("The Unconquerable"), a 1976 Turkish film made for Erler Film. Yılmaz co-wrote the script with Erdoğan Tünaş. Shot in colour and running 83 minutes, it brings together adventure, drama and political elements, with press freedom, bribery and corruption at its centre. Cüneyt Arkın won the Best Actor award at the 13th Antalya Film Festival for his role.
Murat Sözeri (Cüneyt Arkın) is a successful journalist at the newspaper Hürriyet. A young girl named Aysel (Müjde Ar) is abducted and assaulted by three men. Murat reports the incident in his paper on information from his photographer friend Nuri (Şevket Altuğ), but when Nuri and the police commissioner twist the story, Aysel ends up looking guilty. Wanting to make amends, Murat tries to bring out the truth. When the culprits see that he will not let go, they pressure the paper and he resigns, deciding to publish his own street newspaper from a small space to tell the public about injustices.
The cast also includes Hayati Hamzaoğlu (Ökkeş), Seyhan Karabay (Suat), Turgut Boralı (Arif Göksu), Kenan Pars (Hasan Yurt) and Saltuk Kaplangı (the managing editor). Türker İnanoğlu produced, Seyhan Karabay wrote the music and Çetin Gürtop was director of photography.
