Borrowed Bride (Eğreti Gelin)

Eğreti Gelin (Borrowed Bride) is a Turkish drama-comedy film produced in 2004 and released in 2005, notable as the final feature film directed by Atıf Yılmaz, one of the great masters of Turkish cinema. Adapted from Şükran Kozalı's novel Eğreti Gelinler, the film was also produced by Yılmaz himself.

The story unfolds in Kastamonu in the early years of the Republic. Hoping to mature Ali, the mayor's son who still views the world with childlike eyes despite being of marriageable age, his family turns to the regional custom of the "borrowed bride." Kostak Emine, the experienced woman temporarily brought into the household, and Ali gradually fall in love, until the return of Emine's former lover Hasan from prison upends everything.

Nurgül Yeşilçay leads the cast alongside Müjde Ar, Onur Ünsal, Şevket Çoruh, Metin Akpınar and Fikret Hakan. Although set in Kastamonu, filming largely took place in Uşak with its preserved historic mansions, and Yeşilçay's performance earned her the Best Actress award at the 12th Adana Golden Koza Film Festival.
