Takip

The Pursuit (Takip) (translated)

Movie · 1982 · 5 people

Remzi Jöntürk directed Takip ("The Pursuit"), a colour Turkish adventure-action film released on 1 March 1982. The script is by Mehmet Aydın, the producer was Hüsnü Çetiner and the studio was Gökçen Film, with Çetin Tunca behind the camera. Some sources list it as a 1981 film, but its release date is in 1982. The story is a chase after fugitives set in a snowy winter landscape.

The story starts when a vehicle carrying a group of prisoners has a road accident. Two of them, Kör Mustafa (Hayati Hamzaoğlu) and the death-row inmate Hasan (Cüneyt Arkın), manage to escape in the confusion. Bad weather and dense forest make the fugitives almost impossible to trace. Even so, a retired police commissioner, Hüseyin (Fikret Hakan), who has found nothing he hoped for in life, sets out after them; his aim is to hand them over to justice and so prove himself to his son. The chase through the snowbound forest takes a new turn once the roads close.

Alongside Cüneyt Arkın, Fikret Hakan and Hayati Hamzaoğlu, the cast includes Eşref Kolçak (Mazhar), Oya Aydoğan (Oya), Kadir Savun (Kadir Baba), Yılmaz Köksal (Seyyit Han), Ülkü Özen (Nazo Gelin), Atilla Ergün (Barış's stepfather) and Barış Aydın (Barış). Dubbing and film preparation were handled at Yeni Lale Film.

Through different eyes

Action & Thriller Fan Puts pace, tension and set pieces first; little patience for slow drama.

A crash, an escape, a snowy forest and a retired commissioner on the trail: the setup is tailor-made for a chase film. Cüneyt Arkın is the death-row fugitive and Fikret Hakan the man hunting him, and pitting two heavyweights against each other builds tension from the start. Things change once the roads close. Just remember it is a film of its era; if you are used to today's speed, some stretches may feel slow.

Yeşilçam Nostalgic A viewer raised on the classics, looking for warm storytelling and strong acting.

Cüneyt Arkın, Fikret Hakan, Eşref Kolçak... A cast like this brings a whole era of Yeşilçam back before your eyes. Takip brings those masters together this time in a snowy winter landscape, in the middle of a chase. Beneath it you sense a question of conscience rather than plain heroics: an escaped death-row prisoner, and a man who never found what he hoped for in life setting out after him. Still, my heart prefers these masters in films built on words and feeling; here the chase may leave the characters little room to deepen.

Cinephile Looks at script, editing and directing choices; keeps a distance from formula films.

Remzi Jöntürk's Takip leans on one of genre cinema's barest templates: the hunted and the hunter. Its real trump card is location. The snowy winter landscape and dense forest make the chase harder both visually and dramatically, and the closing of the roads gives the narrative a second wind. Fikret Hakan's retired commissioner, driven to prove himself to his son, is built as more than a stock lawman, and that motive adds a layer of character to the pursuit. On the other hand, the crowded supporting cast risks diluting such a lean chase story. Period practices such as studio dubbing after the shoot may also look dated to today's eye.
