Unforgettable (Unutulmayanlar) (translated)

Movie · 1981 · 5 people

Remzi Jöntürk directed the Turkish adventure and action film Unutulmayanlar, which has crime and drama elements and a touch of humour. Made in 1981, it was released on 1 February 1982. It was produced by Kalkavan Film with Deniz Kalkavan as producer, and the story is taken from a work by Mehmet Samsa. Its main attraction is bringing several well-known male stars of Yeşilçam together in one cast.

Its heroes are seven long-haul drivers who stumble unwillingly into a dirty job and realise they are being used for a large-scale arms-smuggling operation. The police close in, and while fleeing they also look for the big boss who dragged them in. The dangerous journey from Beirut to Istanbul forces them to face their own dark pasts as well. Cüneyt Arkın plays Fahrettin, nicknamed the Doctor, with Fikret Hakan as Fikret, Eşref Kolçak as Eşref, İzzet Günay as İzzet and Ekrem Bora as Nefret Ekrem. Orhan Günşiray, Selma Güneri (Nesrin the teacher), Nejat Gürçen (Manukyan) and others also appear.

Jöntürk wrote the script with Ali Fuat Kalkan. Orhan Kapkı was the cinematographer and Ersen composed the music.

Through different eyes

Action & Thriller Fan Puts pace, tension and set pieces first; little patience for slow drama.

Seven long-haul drivers, a huge arms-smuggling operation they get dragged into against their will, the police on their tail and a dangerous run from Beirut to Istanbul. That setup is tailor-made for action. On top of that, Cüneyt Arkın, Fikret Hakan, Eşref Kolçak and İzzet Günay share the cast. Running and hunting for the big boss at the same time feeds the tension from two directions. Spot on for fans of road and getaway stories.

Yeşilçam Nostalgic A viewer raised on the classics, looking for warm storytelling and strong acting.

Remzi Jöntürk's film stands out for bringing Yeşilçam's well-known male stars together in one cast: Cüneyt Arkın, Fikret Hakan, Eşref Kolçak, İzzet Günay, Ekrem Bora, Orhan Günşiray. Seeing those names side by side stirs a sense of loyalty all by itself. The heroes facing their dark pasts promises dramatic depth; still, with so large a cast there is always the risk that not every character gets enough room and some fine actors are wasted. Ersen's music carries the spirit of the period as well.

Family Viewer Asks whether the whole household can watch it; cares about humour and heart.

An action film about arms smuggling, a police chase and the criminal underworld. There is a bit of humour, but violence and tension come first, so it is not suitable for young children. Fathers, grandfathers and older kids who like old Turkish films can watch it together. Seeing so many famous actors in one film will please the grown-ups.
