Nello Pazzafini — Biography

Nello Pazzafini, born Giovanni Pazzafini in Rome on 15 May 1933, was an Italian film actor who died in the same city on 9 January 1996. Over roughly three decades he built one of the busiest supporting careers in Italian genre cinema, turning up as a heavy, a henchman or a brawler in dozens of peplum epics, Italian westerns and poliziotteschi crime pictures. His sturdy build and rough features made him a natural choice for gladiators, bandits and thugs, and in some productions he worked under aliases such as John Carey or Red Carter. His credits span sword-and-sandal titles like Hercules Against Rome and Spartacus and the Ten Gladiators, westerns including The Big Gundown and Adiós gringo, and later action films such as Ironmaster and Yor, the Hunter from the Future. He also appeared in comedies and dramas, among them City of Women and La Cage aux Folles II, reflecting how thoroughly he was woven into popular Italian filmmaking of his era.
