Sal Borgese — Biography

Sal Borgese is a character actor who has turned up across Italian genre cinema since the 1960s, combining acting with stunt work and acrobatics. He is remembered for playing the sidekick who takes the beatings in comedies starring Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. Born Giuseppe Salvatore Borgese, he has also been credited as Salvatore Borgese, Salvatore Borghese, Mark Trevor, Michael Franz and Dick Gordon.

His career began in sword-and-sandal films, with small but noticeable parts in productions such as Barabbas, Spartacus and the Ten Gladiators and Triumph of the Ten Gladiators. In the following decade he moved into Spaghetti Westerns and spy films: he played Septiembre in Adiós, Sabata and supporting characters in films such as If You Meet Sartana Pray for Your Death and The Battle of El Alamein. Comedy and adventure came to the fore in the 1970s, with The Big Family, Messalina, Messalina, The Black Corsair, Brothers Till We Die and Süpermenler among his credits.

He kept working and appears in films of the 1980s and 1990s, including Il Marchese del Grillo, Le comiche and Johnny Stecchino (1991). On 9 October 2018 he received the Tabernas de Cine award.
