The Battle of El Alamein
The Battle of El Alamein (Italian: La battaglia di El Alamein) is a 1969 war film directed by Giorgio Ferroni, made as an international co-production between Italy and France. The film portrays the Second Battle of El Alamein, fought in October and November 1942 between the Axis powers and the Allies, a clash that marked the turning point of the North African campaign against Italy and Nazi Germany. Events unfold through the perspectives of both the German and British general staffs and ordinary soldiers, with particular attention given to an Italian paratrooper unit that suffered devastating losses during the fighting, in part to the advantage of its Afrikakorps allies. The screenplay was written by Ernesto Gastaldi and Remigio Del Grosso, and the ensemble cast includes Frederick Stafford, George Hilton, Michael Rennie, Robert Hossein and Enrico Maria Salerno.
