Movie · 1964 · 3 people

Hercules Against Rome (original Italian title Ercole contro Roma) is a 1964 Italian-French co-production belonging to the sword-and-sandal adventure genre. Directed by Piero Pierotti, the picture was made near the end of the peplum cycle's heyday. The screenplay was written by Arpad De Riso together with Pierotti.

The story follows the Greek hero Hercules as he takes on the might of the Roman Empire. Alan Steel stars in the title role, with Wandisa Guida as Ulpia and Livio Lorenzon as the antagonist Mansurio. The supporting cast includes genre regulars such as Nello Pazzafini and Sal Borgese. Shot in Italian with a running time of around 94 minutes, the film was also released in Germany as Herkules – Rächer von Rom and in France as Samson contre tous. It stands as a characteristic example of the mythological muscleman epics that were popular in European cinemas during the 1960s.
