The Ten Gladiators

The Ten Gladiators (Italian: I dieci gladiatori) is a 1963 Italian action-adventure film directed by Gianfranco Parolini. Set in ancient Rome, it follows the exploits of a band of ten gladiators, with Dan Vadis heading a cast that also includes José Greci, Roger Browne, Gianni Rizzo, Milton Reid and Sal Borgese. The screenplay was written by Parolini together with Giovanni Simonelli. The film, roughly 110 minutes long, opened in Italy in December 1963 and reached other markets, including France, the following year. It launched the so-called Ten Gladiators Trilogy, a series of Italian sword-and-sandal pictures. Two sequels arrived in 1964: Triumph of the Ten Gladiators (Il trionfo dei dieci gladiatori) and Spartacus and the Ten Gladiators (Gli invincibili dieci gladiatori), which continued the adventures of the same gladiator group and cemented the film's place within the popular peplum cycle of the era.
