Whisper If I Forget (Unutursam Fısılda)
Çağan Irmak wrote and directed the melodrama Unutursam Fısılda (Whisper If I Forget), released in Turkish cinemas on October 29, 2014. Blending drama with music, the film runs about two hours and three minutes and was produced by TAFF Pictures. It is counted as the tenth feature in Irmak's filmography. One critic read it as a Yeşilçam fairy tale, proof that the director knows and can work the codes of that tradition, calling back to its golden age in the 1970s.
The story unfolds in a small, quiet, conservative town. Hanife, fresh out of health high school, takes up nursing at the local clinic; bookish and withdrawn, she keeps a poetry notebook that she shows to nobody. Her sister Hatice is mischievous, willful and so passionate about singing that she forgets everything around her. When Tarık, the son of the newly appointed district governor, arrives in town, the lives of both sisters are changed from that day on.
Hümeyra, Işıl Yücesoy, Farah Zeynep Abdullah, Mehmet Günsür and Kerem Bürsin head a cast that also includes Gürkan Uygun, Köksal Engür, Lale Başar, Reha Özcan, Hülya Gülşen Irmak, Jale Aylanç and Evren Duyal. Filming took place in Birgi, in the Ödemiş district of İzmir, and in Istanbul.
