Köksal Engür — Biography
İsmail Köksal Engür (5 March 1946, Kars – 26 March 2023, Istanbul) was a Turkish stage, film and television actor as well as a voice artist whose career spanned more than six decades. He studied at the Theatre Department of Ankara University's Faculty of Language, History and Geography, and began performing before finishing his studies, taking part in radio plays on TRT Ankara Radio's children's programme in 1956.
He became widely known for playing "Aksakallı Dede" in the series Leyla ile Mecnun and "Sıddık" in Zerda, appearing in close to thirty film and television productions over the course of his career. As a prolific voice actor, he dubbed Hollywood stars such as Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman and Robin Williams into Turkish, and also voiced Bert in the Turkish version of Sesame Street and the cartoon cowboy Lucky Luke.
Köksal Engür died in Istanbul on 26 March 2023, remembered as one of the leading figures of Turkish cinema and dubbing.
