Ayşen Gruda — Biography

Ayşen Gruda, born Ayşen Erman on 22 August 1944 in Yeşilköy, built a long career that carried her from the stage into Yeşilçam comedy. Known to audiences as the "tomato beauty" for her red hair and lively comic style, she shared the screen with masters of the genre such as Kemal Sunal, İlyas Salman, Adile Naşit and Şener Şen, in films including Tosun Paşa, Süt Kardeşler and Şekerpare. Through the 1980s and 1990s she also took on television roles, and after 2000 she reached a younger audience through series such as Dayı and Leyla ile Mecnun, while continuing to appear on screen in films like Kağıt and Pek Yakında. Her sisters Ayten Erman and Ayben Erman likewise became actresses. Ayşen Gruda died in Istanbul on 23 January 2019.
