Smiling Eyes (Gülen Gözler) (translated)
Gülen Gözler ("Laughing Eyes") is a 1977 Turkish comedy-drama film directed by Ertem Eğilmez from a screenplay by Sadık Şendil. Produced by Nahit Ataman for Arzu Film, it features an original score by Melih Kibar and was shot in the Yeşilköy neighborhood of Istanbul's Bakırköy district.
The film tells the cheerful story of carpenter Yaşar Usta (Münir Özkul), who gave all five of his daughters male names out of his longing for a son, and his wife Nezaket (Adile Naşit), as the family navigates the daughters' romantic entanglements and financial troubles. Alongside Özkul and Naşit, the ensemble includes beloved Yeşilçam stars Şener Şen, Müjde Ar, Ayşen Gruda, Halit Akçatepe, Itır Esen and İhsan Yüce. Running 97 minutes, it is remembered as one of the classic family comedies of Turkish cinema.
