Red Istanbul (İstanbul Kırmızısı)
Istanbul Red is a 2017 Turkish-Italian co-production drama directed by Ferzan Özpetek, adapted from his own novel published in 2013. Roughly 16 years after Harem Suare, Özpetek returned to shoot in Istanbul, directing his first film in Turkish with a cast made up entirely of Turkish actors. He co-wrote the screenplay with Gianni Romoli. The film's international promotion took place at the Rome Film Festival, and it opened in Italy and then Türkiye in March 2017.
The story follows writer Orhan Şahin, who left everything behind after a traumatic loss and settled in London, where he works as an editor. Years later he returns to Istanbul at the invitation of renowned director Deniz Soysal, who wants him to put the finishing touches on a book about his childhood memories. The morning after their meeting, however, Deniz suddenly vanishes. The film stars Halit Ergenç, Tuba Büyüküstün, Nejat İşler and Mehmet Günsür.
