Halit Ergenç — Biography

Halit Ergenç, born on April 30, 1970, in Istanbul, is the son of actor and musician Sait Ergenç. He began studying naval architecture at Istanbul Technical University but turned to theatre, studying opera and musical theatre acting at Mimar Sinan University; he made his stage debut in 1996 with the Dormen Theatre musical Kral ve Ben.

On television he became known as Devran in Zerda (2002) and Sinan in Aliye (2004); Onur Aksal in Binbir Gece (2006) carried him to international fame. Suleiman the Magnificent in Muhteşem Yüzyıl (2011) became the signature role of his career, and he played Cevdet in Vatanım Sensin (2016), sharing the lead with his wife Bergüzar Korel. In cinema, his portrayal of Atatürk in Dersimiz: Atatürk (2010) stands out. In recent years he appeared in Babil (2020), as Rumi in Mest-i Aşk (2024), a film about Mevlana, and in the series Kral Kaybederse (2025).
