School (Okul)

Okul (School) is a Turkish horror-comedy directed jointly by brothers Yağmur Taylan and Durul Taylan, which hit theaters in January 2004. Doğu Yücel wrote the screenplay by adapting his own novel "Hayalet Kitap" (Ghost Book), while Kevin Moore composed the soundtrack and Sinan Çetin served as producer. Exterior scenes were shot at Vefa Lisesi and interiors at Kabataş Lisesi, two historic Istanbul high schools.

The story begins when Gökalp, the editor of the school magazine, takes his own life after his love for classmate Güldem goes unanswered; on the anniversary of his death, unsettling events begin to haunt the school as students prepare for the university entrance exam. Burak Altay and Nehir Erdoğan lead a cast that also includes Sinem Kobal, Melisa Sözen, Berk Hakman, Ahmet Mümtaz Taylan, Deniz Akkaya and Halit Ergenç. Watched by more than three million people, it stands as a memorable example of Turkish teen cinema of its era.
