Bergüzar Korel — Biography

Bergüzar Gökçe Korel was born on August 27, 1982, in Istanbul. She is the daughter of veteran actors Tanju Korel and Hülya Darcan. She graduated from the Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts State Conservatory, Department of Theatre; in addition to acting, she also works as a television presenter and singer.

She landed her first television role in 1998 in "Kırık Hayatlar" (Broken Lives). 2006 marked two major turning points in her career: she entered the film industry playing Leyla in "Kurtlar Vadisi Irak" (Valley of the Wolves: Iraq), and she achieved a major breakthrough with her portrayal of Şehrazat Evliyaoğlu in the television series "Binbir Gece" (One Thousand and One Nights); this role earned her the 2006 Golden Butterfly Award for Best Actress.

In subsequent years, she continued her screen success with the series Aşk Geliyorum Demez (2009), Bitmeyen Şarkı (2010-2011) and Karadayı (2012-2015); her portrayal of Feride in Karadayı brought her her second Golden Butterfly Award in 2013. Between 2016-2018, she played the nurse Azize in Vatanım Sensin, sharing the lead role with her husband Halit Ergenç, whom she married in 2009; the couple had a son named Ali in 2010.

More recently, she played the role of Yasemin in the film Ten Seconds (2024); and she co-starred with Timuçin Esen in the HBO Max series First and Last.
