Lale Başar — Biography

Lale Başar is a stage, television and film actress born in Ordu on 27 January 1964. She graduated from the theatre department of the Hacettepe University State Conservatory in 1986 and joined the Bursa State Theatre that same year, being named artist of the year at the Bursa Theatre Awards in her first season. In Bursa she appeared in plays such as Venedik Taciri, Kafkas Tebeşir Dairesi and Fehim Paşa Konağı. In 1994 she moved to the Ankara State Theatre, where her role in Genet's Hizmetçiler won a commendation from the Ankara Arts Institution, and she played in productions including Liola, Ortakçılar and Yer Demir Gök Bakır. After retiring from the state company in 2009 she continued to perform with private theatres.

Her television career began in 1986 with Dudaktan Kalbe, and series such as Seni Çok Özledim, Kod Adı Kaos, Karamel and Deniz Yıldızı raised her profile. Later she played Mukaddes Şekercizade in Aşk Yeniden, Kamilla in Yeni Gelin, Şule Sarıhan in Erkenci Kuş, Sevim Atasoy in Bay Yanlış and Perihan Kösaner in Adım Farah, and in 2024 she joined the cast of Kötü Kan.

On the big screen, her performance in Köksüz brought a best actress award at the Berlin Film Festival and best supporting actress honours at the 2014 Altın Koza and from the Turkish Film Critics Association. Her films also include Göl Zamanı, Unutursam Fısılda and Aykut Enişte. She is married to Kemal Başar.
