Rose Embroidery in My Circle (Çemberimde Gül Oya) (translated)
Çemberimde Gül Oya is a Turkish television series directed by Çağan Irmak that blends period drama with a political backdrop. It premiered on Kanal D on 3 September 2004 and concluded with its 40th episode on 1 July 2005. The series follows Yurdanur, who comes of age amid the university unrest of the late 1970s, falls in love with the left-wing Mehmet, and lives through the events leading up to the military coup of 12 September 1980; director Irmak called the show's success "a miracle."
The large ensemble cast included Tuba Büyüküstün, Özge Özberk, Mehmet Ali Nuroğlu, Fikret Kuşkan, Işıl Yücesoy, and Füsun Erbulak. The series is also notable as the first Turkish drama dubbed into Arabic, in a Syrian dialect, and broadcast on channels such as MBC4, making it a milestone in the rise of Turkish television dramas across the Arab world.
