Our Folks (Bizimkiler) (translated)

Bizimkiler (Our People) is a long-running Turkish television series of the family and comedy genre, which aired between 1989 and 2002. Written by Umur Bugay, the series was developed based on the characters of the 1976 film Kapıcılar Kralı (The King of Doormen); it depicts the relationships between families living in an apartment building in Istanbul and their relationships with their surroundings with warm, observant humor.

Initially, the story centers around Şükrü's immediate family, relatives, and apartment residents; however, over the years, the cast has expanded, the focus of the story has shifted, and the apartment building has become increasingly crowded. Most episodes would end with Şükrü's son, Ali, recounting his experiences from that episode. The role of Şükrü was first played by Erdal Özyağcılar, then by Savaş Dinçel; and actors such as Ercan Yazgan, Salih Kalyon, Engin Şenkan, and Meral Çetinkaya have brought the unforgettable character to life.

The series, which ran for 15 seasons and reached approximately 465 episodes, was first broadcast on TRT 1, then on Star TV and Show TV. With its high ratings and widespread acceptance, it is considered one of the most influential productions in Turkish television history; its success paved the way for many subsequent domestic series.
