Meral Çetinkaya — Biography
Meral Çetinkaya was born on 5 March 1945 in Bursa. She performed on stage with Dostlar Theatre and the Bakırköy Municipal Theatres, and her work in these companies earned her theatre awards. Television audiences came to know her as Ayla Hanım in the series Bizimkiler, which aired between 1989 and 2002. Her portrayal of Hasefe Akarsu in Öyle Bir Geçer Zaman ki brought her the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2012 Antalya Television Awards. She won the Golden Orange in 1979 with Hazal and again in 1996 with Solgun Bir Sarı Gül, and appeared in films such as Vizontele, Mutluluk, Karanlıktakiler, Ayla and Sibel. The veteran actress, honoured with the Bilge Olgaç Achievement Award, the Cinema Honour Award of the 2022 Istanbul Film Festival and the Labour Award of the Trabzon Film Festival, was the wife of actor Yavuzer Çetinkaya, whom we lost in 1992.
