In Darkness (Karanlıktakiler)
Karanlıktakiler (In Darkness) is a 2009 Turkish drama-thriller written and directed by Çağan Irmak and produced by Most Production. Shot mostly in Istanbul's Kuzguncuk neighborhood, the roughly 100-minute film tells a melancholic, claustrophobic story confined largely to a small house.
At its center lies the obsessive bond between Egemen, a man in his thirties, and his paranoid schizophrenic mother Gülseren. Egemen works an ordinary job at an advertising agency but is forced to live with his jealous, possessive mother, and their home becomes a kind of hell for him. The only place he feels at ease is the office, where he has fallen in love with his boss; yet knowing he must return home every night plunges him into despair. The film stars Erdem Akakçe, Meral Çetinkaya and Derya Alabora.
