Güner Özkul — Biography

Güner Özkul is known as the daughter of the Yeşilçam veteran Münir Özkul and the actress Suna Selen, but she has made her own way by combining graphic design, modelling, theatre, presenting and acting. Most recently she joined the cast of the series Doktor Başka Hayatta, which reached screens in early 2026, playing Nuran, the mother of the character Elif.

She graduated from the graphic design department of Mimar Sinan University in 1988, completed a master's degree in the same department in 1992 and began doctoral work in the university's cinema and television department. Before moving into acting she worked as a graphic designer and model, and she also does voice-over. On stage she appeared in The Vagina Monologues; on television she played Sevilay in Samanyolu TV's series Kollama. For a time she presented the arts and culture programme Afiş on CNN Türk.

In an acting career of roughly thirty years she appeared as Elâ in Yellow Smile (1993) and as Neval in Neredesin Firuze (2004); Karanlıktakiler (2009) is also among her better-known credits. She played Nebahat Taşyumruk in Mutlu Aile Defteri (2013), and later took part in productions such as İkimize Bir Dünya, Babam, Eski Köye Yeni Adet, Güzelliğin Portresi and the Netflix film Beni Çok Sev. Her brother Sinan Sümer is also an actor.
