Cihat Tamer — Biography

Born Ahmet Cihat Tamer on 26 February 1943 in Istanbul to a family with roots in Rize, the actor studied at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University before making his stage debut as an amateur at Bakırköy Halkevi in 1959. He went on to perform with major theatre companies such as Münir Özkul Tiyatrosu, Bulvar Tiyatrosu, Devekuşu Kabare and Dostlar Tiyatrosu, and later founded his own company, Cihat Tamer-Ercan Yazgan Tiyatrosu.

He entered cinema in 1971 with Bir Varmış Bir Yokmuş and built a career spanning more than six decades, becoming widely known for his role in the television series Bizimkiler and the play Yasaklar, alongside credits in productions such as Mahallenin Muhtarları (1992) and Uzun Hikaye (2012).

Married for decades, Tamer publicly shared his grief after the death of his son, Atilla Tamer, in 2024.
