Engin Şenkan — Biography

Engin Şenkan was born on 1 January 1944 in the Eyüp district of Istanbul. After training at the Ankara State Conservatory, he joined the Ankara State Theatre company in 1967, where over the following decade he appeared in plays such as Kâtip Çıkmazı, Nalınlar, and Bu Hesapta Yoktu, earning honorable mentions for supporting actor from the Sanat Sevenler Derneği in 1972 and 1974. He moved to the Istanbul State Theatre in 1980, performing in productions including Köprü and Kanlı Düğün, and later took the stage with the Bakırköy Municipal Theatre in 2001.

He entered cinema with the 1984 film Yalnızlar, but became widely recognized on television for playing Şevket across the fourteen-season run of Bizimkiler between 1989 and 2002. In the decades that followed he took roles in high-profile series such as Kınalı Kar, Hatırla Sevgili, Kurtlar Vadisi Pusu, Ezel, Muhteşem Yüzyıl and Camdaki Kız, along with films like Kelebeğin Rüyası and Son Akşam Yemeği. By 2025 he had taken on the role of Cemal in Kral Kaybederse, departing the production again within the same year. Married to Sıdıka Şenkan and the father of two daughters, he has amassed nearly eighty screen and stage credits across a career spanning more than six decades.
