The Butterfly's Dream (Kelebeğin Rüyası)
The Butterfly's Dream is a 2013 Turkish drama film written and directed by Yılmaz Erdoğan. Produced by BKM Film, it is inspired by the true story of two young poets, Rüştü Onur and Muzaffer Tayyip Uslu, who lived in Zonguldak, a coal-mining city still in the process of modernization during the World War II era.
While working as civil servants, the two friends devote themselves entirely to poetry even as tuberculosis, the era's widespread disease, threatens their health. When Suzan, the mayor's teenage daughter, returns to the city, a close friendship forms between the three. Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ and Mert Fırat star in the lead roles, with Erdoğan himself playing the poets' literature teacher Behçet Necatigil. The film was chosen as Turkey's entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards but was not nominated, while Rahman Altın's score earned international recognition.
