Mud (Çamur)

Çamur (Mud) is a Turkish drama-comedy directed and written by Derviş Zaim, dated to 2002-2003. The story follows Ali, a soldier completing his military service in Cyprus, whose life is upended when a mysterious illness robs him of his ability to speak shortly before he is due to be discharged; a local legend leads him to search for a healing mud, and during his search an ancient idol unearthed from the mud comes to profoundly affect the lives of everyone around him.

The cast includes Taner Birsel, Mustafa Uğurlu and Murat Garipağaoğlu; the film, Zaim's third feature, is noted for its distinctive symbolic visual language.
