Tomris İncer — Biography

Tomris Zehra İncer (29 May 1947 – 5 October 2015) was a Turkish stage, film and television actress. She was born in Bulgaria, although some sources give her date of birth as 16 March 1948. She entered cinema in 1973 with Azap, a film headlined by Türkan Şoray, and joined the İstanbul City Theatres the following year, beginning a stage career that would run for decades.

Across a working life of some forty-five years she moved between theatre, cinema and television. Her film credits include A World Upside Down, Aylaklar, Kuşatma Altında Aşk, O da Beni Seviyor, House of Hearts (Gönlümdeki Köşk Olmasa, 2002), The Encounter, Mud and, latterly, Zer. On television she reached a mass audience as Nadide Evliyaoğlu in 1001 Nights, Şahnur Baldar in Love and Punishment and Hümeyra in Böyle Bitmesin. She won prizes at the Ankara and Adana film festivals and two Sadri Alışık awards for her stage work.

Her cancer diagnosis was made public in August 2015 and she died in Istanbul on 5 October that year; she was buried in Foça, the Aegean town she loved. Remembered in the Turkish press as a "walking conservatory", she is still quoted for her performances.
