Asterix & Obelix Take On Caesar (Asteriks ve Oburiks Sezar'a karşı)

Adapted from the famous Astérix comics by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, this 1999 French-Italian-German fantasy adventure comedy is the first live-action film in the series. Directed by Claude Zidi, it stars Christian Clavier as Asterix, Gérard Depardieu as Obelix and Roberto Benigni as the treacherous Roman Detritus.

Set in 50 BC, the story follows the kidnapping of the druid Getafix by the Romans, who hope to seize his magic potion and finally conquer the defiant Gaulish village, prompting Asterix and Obelix to mount a rescue; the screenplay blends elements from several comic albums. The most expensive French production of its era, the film drew around 9 million admissions in France, topping the 1999 box office, and was followed by the sequel Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra in 2002.
