Papy fait de la résistance

Papy fait de la résistance is a 1983 French war comedy directed by Jean-Marie Poiré. Adapted from the stage play written by Martin Lamotte and Christian Clavier, it parodies films about World War II and the French Resistance, pitting resistants against collaborators under the German occupation with a large ensemble cast.

The film brings together a new generation of actors, including the Le Splendid troupe, Jacques Villeret and Roland Giraud, alongside veterans such as Michel Galabru, Jacqueline Maillan and Jean Carmet. Harshly reviewed by the French press upon release, it nevertheless drew four million admissions and became a cult film in France. Dedicated to the memory of Louis de Funès, who had been cast before his death, the role of Papy ultimately went to Michel Galabru.
