Inspector Blunder

Inspector Blunder (original title Inspecteur la Bavure) is a 1980 French crime comedy written and directed by Claude Zidi and produced by Renn Productions. It opened in France on 3 December 1980.

The story follows a clumsy, incompetent trainee police inspector, played by the celebrated comedian Coluche, who finds himself up against the country's most wanted gangster. That criminal, portrayed by Gérard Depardieu, drew loose inspiration from Jacques Mesrine, the notorious real-life outlaw killed by police only a year before the film's release. Depardieu later revisited the same legend in the biographical picture Mesrine, appearing this time as the gangster's mentor.

The supporting cast includes Dominique Lavanant and Julien Guiomar, among others. The film proved a major box-office success in France and is still regarded as one of Coluche's signature screen roles, blending police-thriller tropes with broad comic energy.
