Turgut Özatay — Biography
Turgut Özatay was born on 30 December 1927 in İzmir, into a family of Balkan Turks who had emigrated from Üsküp (Skopje) before the Balkan Wars. He went on to become one of Yeşilçam's most prolific performers, appearing in roughly 500 films over his career — reportedly the third-most of any Turkish film actor.
Through the 1950s and 1960s he frequently played villains opposite stars such as Cüneyt Arkın and Kemal Sunal, most memorably as the Vlad-the-Impaler-styled antagonist in the Kara Murat film series and as "Ayı Abbas" in Korkusuz Korkak. His film Kırık Çanaklar (The Broken Pots, 1960) was selected for the 11th Berlin International Film Festival.
Turgut Özatay died of lung cancer in Istanbul on 26 June 2002.
