The helpless (Çaresizler) (translated)

Movie · 1973 · 4 people

Çaresizler (The Helpless) is a 1973 Turkish film directed by Natuk Baytan, from a screenplay by Nurettin Erişen and shot by cinematographer Kaya Ererez. Running 83 minutes in colour, the Cem Film production opened on 1 October 1973 and was produced by Yahya Kılıç and Deniz Kalkavan.

Mixing drama with adventure, the story sets two men against each other, both pulled into criminal life by circumstances beyond their control. After his wife is assaulted and killed, Osman sets out for revenge and sinks into the underworld, losing track of his son Murat, orphaned as a small child. Kadir, who grows up with no family of his own, earns a feared name in the same milieu through sheer nerve and skill in a fight.

Tired of paying Kadir protection money, Rafet and his men strike a bargain with the newly released Osman to be rid of him, and the meeting of the two leads somewhere none of them expects. Cüneyt Arkın plays Murat/Kadir, Ahmet Mekin plays Osman Baba and Turgut Özatay plays Rafet, with Perihan Savaş, Hakkı Koşar and Osman Alyanak also in the cast.
