Ahmet Mekin — Biography

Ahmet Mekin, born Ahmet Kurteli on 6 August 1932 in Istanbul, began performing at the Bakırköy People's House theatre before entering cinema in 1957 with the film Mahşere Kadar. Over a career spanning more than six decades, he appeared in close to 200 films and television series, becoming one of Yeşilçam's most prolific character actors.

Mekin took roles in landmark productions such as Aşktan da Üstün, Gurbet Kuşları, Bir Türk'e Gönül Verdim, Kaplanlar Ağlamaz and Kağıt, but is best remembered for playing Cemşit in Atıf Yılmaz's Selvi Boylum Al Yazmalım; he kept working into the 2010s, appearing in productions such as 72. Koğuş and Seddülbahir 32 Saat.

After recovering from a health scare in early 2026, Mekin remained in the public eye through the summer, sharing a film set with his actor grandson Mekin Sezer in Bak Postacı Geliyor and offering an emotional tribute in June 2026 to his late colleague Kadir İnanır, cementing his standing as one of Yeşilçam's living legends.
