The Blue-Eyed Giant (Mavi Gözlü Dev) (translated)

The Blue-Eyed Giant (Mavi Gözlü Dev) is a 2007 Turkish biographical film depicting the years poet Nâzım Hikmet spent in Bursa Prison after 1941. Directed and produced by Biket İlhan from a screenplay by Metin Belgin that was rewritten eight times over more than four years, the film takes its title from Hikmet's poem "The Blue-Eyed Giant, the Tiny Woman and the Honeysuckles." It went down in cinema history as the first film ever made about the poet's life.

Yetkin Dikinciler portrays Hikmet, alongside Uğur Polat, Özge Özberk, Bülent Emrah Parlak and Ferit Kaya. Made by Sinevizyon Film with 175,000 TL in support from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the production was shot on a prison set built by art director Mustafa Ziya Ülkenciler in Beykoz. With music by Cem İdiz, the film drew 228,295 admissions, ranking fifth among films by female directors in Turkey between 2004 and 2013.
