Legal drama meets crime, detective story and psychological thriller in Yargı, known internationally as Family Secrets, a Turkish series made by Ay Yapım for Kanal D. It began on 19 September 2021, aired on Sunday evenings, ran for three seasons and ended with its 95th episode on 26 May 2024. Its 34-episode first season became one of the most-watched series in Türkiye. At the 51st International Emmy Awards in New York in 2023 it was named Best Telenovela, the second Turkish winner in that category after Kara Sevda, also from Ay Yapım.

The story centres on prosecutor Ilgaz Kaya and lawyer Ceylin Ergüvan, whose paths cross over a murder case. Forced to work together to find the killer, they go through an experience that breaks their lives irreversibly. Kaan Urgancıoğlu plays Ilgaz and Pınar Deniz plays Ceylin, and the two also play a couple in the story. The cast also includes Uğur Aslan, Şükran Ovalı, Uğur Polat, Hüseyin Avni Danyal, Zeyno Eracar and Nilgün Türksever (Laçin).

Ali Bilgin and Beste Sultan Kasapoğulları directed, Sema Ergenekon wrote it and Kerem Çatay produced. The second season started on 18 September 2022 and the third ran from 2023 into 2024. The series is also credited with a Golden Butterfly award for best series.

Through different eyes

Series Binger A series devotee tracking character arcs, cast chemistry and season pacing.

Yargı has one of the best-built pairings of recent years: the relationship between a prosecutor and a lawyer forced to work together slowly turns into something else entirely, and Kaan Urgancıoğlu and Pınar Deniz play that shift very convincingly. The first season is truly gripping, with every episode opening a new question. Its International Emmy for Best Telenovela is no accident. But three seasons and 95 episodes is a long road, and from the second season on there are stretches where the story scatters and the pace drops. Even so, the cast, led by Uğur Aslan, carries the show through its weaker moments.

Action & Thriller Fan Puts pace, tension and set pieces first; little patience for slow drama.

Do not picture dull courtrooms when you hear legal drama. Yargı mixes a murder investigation with crime and psychological thriller, and the question of who the killer is keeps you glued to the screen until the episode ends. Some emotional scenes run long and break the tension, but the overall pace is high. A good pick for thriller fans who want to spend a weekend on a few episodes.

Family Viewer Asks whether the whole household can watch it; cares about humour and heart.

A much-loved series, but not one to watch with young children. Murder, crime and psychological tension sit at the heart of the story, and some scenes are heavy and tense. It works with high-schoolers and can even start good conversations about justice and family. Do not let the Sunday-evening slot fool you; it speaks mostly to adults and older teens.
