White as Snow (Kar Beyaz)

White as Snow (Kar Beyaz) is a 2010 Turkish drama film written and directed by Selim Güneş, adapted from Sabahattin Ali's short story "Ayran". It premiered at the 47th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival.

The story follows a single day in the life of young Hasan, who lives in a village in the Eastern Black Sea region. After his father is imprisoned and the family falls into poverty, his mother must work as a caretaker in town, leaving Hasan to feed his younger siblings. On a cold winter day the boy sells buttermilk to minibus passengers at a roadside teahouse. The narrative widens to include side characters such as Recep, the teahouse keeper awaiting word from his beloved Fatma, and old Kadir, who tries to sell his winter pears. The film was also selected for the 46th Chicago International Film Festival and won Best Film Music at Antalya and the Mahmut Tali Öngören Special Award at the 22nd Ankara International Film Festival.
