The Captain (Kaptan) (translated)
Kaptan ("The Captain") is a 1984 Turkish film directed by Zeki Alasya, from a screenplay by Suphi Tekniker. Produced by Enver Özer under the Özer Film banner, with cinematography by Abdullah Gürek, the colour picture runs 88 minutes and stars Orhan Gencebay and Hülya Avşar.
The story follows Orhan, a carefree, somewhat reckless ship captain whose vessel is seized over a promissory note paid too late. Setting off in his pickup truck to settle the debt, he picks up a young woman named Melek along the way. His creditor turns out to be one of the town's wealthy notables, and Melek turns out to be the man's daughter. Thrown out of the creditor's villa, Orhan abducts the young woman in revenge, and amid the mishaps of the journey an unexpected romance grows between the two.
A sentimental melodrama of its era, the film also features Filiz Ersürer, Ali Yalaz and Ünsal Emre in its supporting cast.
