Hülya Avşar — Biography
Hülya Avşar was born on October 10, 1963, in the Edremit district of Balıkesir, to a Kurdish father and a Turkish mother. In 1982 she won the Kâinat beauty pageant, only to have her crown stripped when it emerged that she was already married; the following year she made her film debut in Haram alongside Fikret Hakan and Salih Güney.
From the mid-1980s she became one of Yeşilçam's most prolific leading actresses, starring in films such as Nefret, Kaptan, Tutku and Karanfilli Naciye, and in 1993 she won Best Actress at the Moscow International Film Festival for her role in Berlin in Berlin. She returned to wide public attention with the 2004 series Kadın İsterse, played Safiye Sultan in Muhteşem Yüzyıl: Kösem in 2015, and portrayed Hale Ilgaz in the 2021 series Masumiyet.
Alongside acting, Avşar has released albums as a singer since 1988 and spent years on the judging panel of Yetenek Sizsiniz Türkiye (Turkey's Got Talent). In the summer of 2026 she directed and filmed the music video for her new single herself on her phone, underscoring her continued creative output.
